The Parade

Brody Weaver
Poster for performance, 8.5” x 11”
2019
This poster was used to informally advertise the performance The Parade (2019). The text below was written to represent the intergenerational work of systems change and moves in and out of direct quotes and poetic prose inspired by the oral history sessions which informed the performance.

can i ask you to help me carry something?

i think so
depends how heavy it is – for how long?

I can’t do it alone
can’t do it alone, can never do anything alone
leaning on eachother with our eyes closed.

one of the ways you can connect is by sharing your story
we will never travel to the States
protection is the end goal

so you will?
if I move this extremely heavy, white marble object

I can help.
we’ll have to slow down for a bit

teach me with my body, what the history begs to remember

teach me
teach me
write it down please

learning, together, an oral history, a physical remembrance.
