Smith, Eric

Brody Weaver
Archival folder with prints
2018

This work was developed as an act of archival resistance, scanning and reproducing archival materials held at the Central Halifax Library. The archival folder accessed, scanned, and reproduced in this work was that of Eric Smith, a queer man and school teacher whose career was attacked and tarnished in light of his public HIV and AIDS diagnosis. Valuing his legacy through brining it beyond the walls of an archival institution and into public spaces, this work considers historical amnesia and how we might resist it towards new spaces of intergenerational memory and relation.
